Exeter welcomes Steve Backshall back to the Streatham Campus

The College of Life and Environmental Sciences (CLES) was delighted to welcome Hon DLitt (and University of Exeter alumnus) Steve Backshall back to the Streatham Campus in December 2013, to deliver the College Annual Lecture.

The lecture was attended by over 300 CLES students, staff and alumni, who enjoyed a festive drinks reception and book signing with Steve after a highly visual and inspirational lecture.

Steve talked extensively about his recent travels across the globe and close encounters with wildlife, that included the elusive snow leopard in Bhutan and the mystical Tiger Mountain on the Tibetan border.

With tigers heading for extinction, Steve discussed how the international team of big cat experts and wildlife filmmakers were given unique access to the jungles and mountains of Bhutan, for what could be the last chance to save this magnificent animal.

Steve also discussed his recent filming of the series ‘Swimming with Monsters', where he joined forces with behavioural experts, scientists and extreme divers in order to dive with fascinating but deadly animals.

The lecture was exceptionally well received by all who attended and the College are now planning the Annual lecture for winter 2014.

Date: 8 January 2014
